Decorated with a scholar seated under a willow tree beside a river. The border is divided into panels of flowers issuing from rockwork and cloud scrolls divided by narrow sections of brocade, after ‘kraak’ designs. The reverse with formal Ming-style lotus meander, and five stilt marks.
It is unusual to find a large Japanese saucer dish decorated in such a formal Chinese style. Perhaps this was intended for export to the Chinese domestic market.
