SAINT CLOUD SILVER-MOUNTED TOBACCO JAR AND DOMED COVER
1725 – 1730
Incised STxC over T for Henry Trou
19.9 cm high
Moulded in deep relief with a phoenix and birds in flight over flowering branches issuing from banded hedges.
This unrecorded model is exceptional for the deep and bold moulding, typically tobacco jars have simple prunus moulding. Another example with a different but equally bold pattern, lacking it’s lid, is in the Musée de la Ceramique, Rouen.
The silver mounts are of the period.
