The tray painted with the famous view of the centre Dresden from the terrace of the Japanese Palace, showing the Augustusbrücke, the Hofkirche and the Frauenkirche. The other pieces painted with the Palaces of Pillnitz, Moritzburg and Pirna, The Albrechtsburg, and a view of La Grand Jardin and Tharand.
A comparable service in the Rijksmuseum with views of French ports, 1800-1804, also has a painter’s mark 115 (illustrated A. den Blauwen, Meissen Porcelain in the Rijksmuseum, no 251, p. 357 and Triumph of the Blue Swords, 2010, p.383, Cat. No. 492). The painting of this service is attributed to Johann Gottlob Karl Liebezeit. Liebezeit along with Johann Friedrich Nagel were the factories leading painters of Prospekte in the period 1790-1810. They are recorded as having painted views of Dresden, Meissen, the Moritzburg and Pillnitz.
Condition – Lid of hot water jug modern replacement, chip to tip of finial of lid of teapot and crack to base of handle. Some losses to gilding.
