Bearing the arms of the Albertine Electoral House of Saxony on the inside and decorated with four festoons of fruit and flowers suspended from ribbons on the outside.
Since the Saxon Elector’s crossed swords are not displayed, they belong to an Electoral Prince or a Secundogeniture Prince.
The fruit and flower festoons are similar to those found on the work of Nuremberg faience hausmaler of the 1670s such as Georg Strauch. Although Dresden itself had distinguished enamellers this does not appear to be their work.
The white enamel is opacified with tin-oxide as was the practice in Limoges, the Chinese Canton enamellers opacified their enamel with arsenic.
Condition – Stress cracks and slight losses to the enamel.
