A SMALL SALTGLAZED STONEWARE TWO-HANDLED LOVING CUP

A SMALL SALTGLAZED STONEWARE TWO-HANDLED LOVING CUP

Derbyshire, Perhaps Belper pottery
Inscribed on both side
‘F 1796 Y’
11.7 cm high, 16.6 cm across the handles

This unusually small loving cup is decorated with rouletted bands, incised flower sprays and impressed detail

Nottingham and Derbyshire stonewares can be hard to tell apart but Nottingham had probably ceased production by the date of this cup. The vertical rouletted bands are characteristic of Derbyshire.
