A MEISSEN, BÖTTGER PORCELAIN, SAUCER

Unknown hausmaler
Circa 1720 -1730
13.0 cm diam.

The reverse applied with three raised flowering branches. Finely painted with a huntsman shooting a fox in a distinctive and delicately shaded palette. The garland swags in the border are quite similar to some pieces decorated by the Metsch workshop, but the colour palette of the central scene with its strong pink is unlike most other pieces associated with Bayreuth. The baroque strapwork suggests a fairly early date and the decoration is reminiscent of goldsmiths work on enamel watch cases. A Closely related piece is in the Gardiner Museum Toronto (Object Number: G83.1.825.1-2)
